10 Cheapest Travel Destinations in Asia

Trust me, Asia will astonish you beyond words. Imagine it as a colossal chest brimming with dynamic cultures, just waiting to be discovered. Whether it’s the lively night bazaars of Thailand or the peaceful shrines in Japan, each nation presents a distinct window into an extensive heritage. And we should definitely talk about the picturesque scenes! Picture the towering, snow-dusted peaks of Nepal, the crystal-clear seas of the Philippines, and the verdant rainforests of Indonesia.

The best part? Experiencing this marvel doesn’t require a lavish budget. Asia welcomes those traveling on a tight budget with open arms. During my months-long journey across Southeast Asia with limited funds, I relished in tasty street eats for just a few dollars and stayed in delightful guesthouses for almost nothing. Whether your heart seeks thrill (consider cave exploration in Vietnam or rafting on the wild rivers of Nepal), desires to ignite your taste buds (imagine savoring spicy Thai curries or the freshness of spring rolls in Hoi An), or wishes to immerse in cultural rites (envision participating in a tea ceremony in Japan or watching a traditional dance in Cambodia), Asia encompasses it all, without putting a strain on your finances. So, forget those pricey European getaways and prepare to leap into the soul of Asia. We’re about to uncover the 12 most wallet-friendly spots on the continent and I’ll let you in on some secrets to make your money stretch even further for a truly remarkable journey.

    Thailand

Thailand is often at the top of the list for budget travellers, and for good reasons. This beautiful country offers a mixture of everything: stunning beaches, vibrant cities, and rich cultural experimentations.

    Affordable Accommodations

Hostels and guest houses: You can find several hostels and guesthouses in popular destinations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, often less than ten dollars a night.

Budget Hotel: For those looking for a bit more comfort, budget hotels can be found for around twenty-$30 nights.

    Delicious Street Food

Variety and Afford: Streeth food in Thailand is not only delicious but also incredibly cheap! Meals can cost as little as $1-2 I remember trying Pad Thai from a street car in Bangkok for just $1 it was one of the best meals I had!

Must-Try Dishes: Don’t miss out on trying mango stick rice; tom yum soup, and Thai green curry.

    Cultural Experiences

Bangkok: Explore the Grand Palace and Wat Arun! The bustling Chatuchak Market is perfect for bargain hunters.

Krabi: Enjoy the serene beaches and island hopp tours, which are surprisingly affordable; A long-tail boat tour can cost around $10.

    Vietnam

Vietnam is another fantastical option for budget travellers offering a mixture of history, natural beauty and culinary devices.

    Affordable Options

Accommodations: Hostel bead can be found for $5-$10 a night while middle-range hotels usually around $20-$40.

Transportation: Public buses and trains are very affordable. Even domestic flights are reasonably priced if booked in advance.

    Rich History and stunning Landscapes

Historical Sites: Visits the Cu Chi Tunnel in Ho Chi Minh City or the ancient town of Hoi An. Each has its charm and entry few are minimal

Natural Landscapes: Cruising through the stunning Halong Bay or trekking through Sapa rice terraces.

    Delicious Cuisine

Pho and Banh Mi: Vietnamese pho and banh mi sandwiches are not only delectable but also budget-friendly. A bowl of pho typically costs around $2.

Street Food: Street vendors offer a variety of tasty and cheap options. I once had a whole meal of spring rolls and noodles for just under $3!!

    Cambodia

Cambodia, home to the magnificent Angkor Wat; is an outstanding choice for travellers on a budget.

    Vibrant Culture and Budget-Friendly Accommodations

Guesthouses and Hostels: Accommodation can be incredibly cheap, with many hostels offering beds as little as $3-$5 a night.

Local Villages: Experience local culture staying in homestays which could be both enriching and economical options.

    Attractions

Angkor Wat: While the entrance fee might seem steep at $37, the experience is well worth it! You can spend an entire day exploring the ancient temple complexes.

Phnom Penh: Visit the Royal Palace and Tuol Sleng Genocidal Museum. Entry fees are affordable and generally under $10.

Food: A Culinary Journey Through Cambodia

One of the highlights of travelling through Cambodia is indulging in its diverse and flavorful cuisine. Cambodian food, with a rich history and influences from neighbouring places, offers budget travellers an array of delicious options that won’t break the piggy.

    Street Food Enjoyments

In the bustled streets of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, street food stalls are a common sight serving up local faves at incredibly affordable prices! One must-try dish is Bai Sach Chrouk, a simple yet satisfying meal of grilled pork served over broken rice, often accompanied by pickled veggies and a light broth. For less than $2, you can enjoy a hearty and flavorful meal that captures the essence of Cambodian cuisine!

    Dining on a Budget

In addition to street food, Cambodia boasts a variety of affordable restaurants and eateries. Local eateries, known as “Psa”, serve traditional dishes at very reasonable prices!! For example, a meal at a local restaurant often costs between $2 and $5, allowing you to enjoy a sit-down meal without straining your budget.

    Nepal

Nepal is a paradise for adventurer seekers offering stunning Himalaya landscapes and affordable trekking options.

    Adventure and Affordability

Trekking: Treks like the Annapurna Circuit and Everest Base Camps are not only iconic but can be done on a budget. Permits and guides are generally affordable.

Accommodations: Teahouses along trekking routes offer basic meals and accommodation around $10-$20 per day.

    Cultural and Natural Beauty

Kathmandu: Discover historical temples and bustling markets! Entry to many sites costs just a few dollars.

Pokhara: Relax by the serene Phewa Lake or explore nearby mountains. Activities here are surprisingly affordable.
